woodcut on paper, 38.6 x 27.3 cm, signed with bound monogram on block at bottom: "AD".
The paper is marked with a watermark called "Two Towers" or "City Gate" in the literature. The mark depicts the coat of arms of Ravensburg, the paper was probably produced in the second oldest paper factory in Germany just in Ravensburg (the factory was established in 1393-1394).
The print is from the series "Die Grosse Passion" ("The Great Passion", the individual prints of the series are dated 1496-1499 and 1510), published in print by Benedictus Chelidonius in 1511. The work is described in major monographs on the work of Albrecht Dürer: Bartsch 8, Meder 117, Strauss 37, Schoch, Mende, & Scherbaum 158.
